My advice is to take the examples in the appendix of Patterns and write out 100 examples of each. And don't just to that once. Do it a number of times over the next few weeks.
My question however is what it your intent?
Are you attempting to hypnotise someone without their awareness or are you wanting to be more persuasive?
Language is all well and good but the real skills in persuasion are state elicitation and leveraging of the person's values and then linking yourself/solution by the use of language.
Man I hope you are joking with that first paragraph on hypnotic language!
If you want to learn how to be more persuasive, in or out of hypnosis then I recommend that you learn how to use linguistic presuppositions and state elicitation and utilization.
The Milton Model is just a way of packaging the above in a way that attempts to reduce resistance.
So if you want to learn how to use language more effectively to persuade then I suggest getting hold of one of the early Bandler and Grinder books like Patterns 1 and go to the appendix and really study presuppositions.
When i did one of my trainings with Bandler he had us write out 100 examples of each form so that we became really good with them.
Then learn how to elicit states, overly and covertly.
Then put the two things together.
And most importantly be congruent when you are communicating.
Although I have not trained directly with Jeff I do have a video course of his that he did a number of years ago and if that is anything to go on you will be fine.
He is an absolute gent and really laid back. No academic nonsense at all.
I would love to hear how you get on after the course!
Oh that's ok then. I am only depressed because I have inflammation.
I thought it was because my wife just left me, the bank is foreclosing on my house and I have just been fired. I glad to that it has nothing to do with that or all the guilt I have after putting my parents into a care home when they got alzheimer's!
Pass me the broccoli!
I am not sure if i would LET the added word here or there in my typing get ME thinking abOUT ideomotor typing. However if you LET your mind MEander as you type who knows what might come OUT.
Personally I would LET it bother ME unless you are OUT to convince yourself that your mind is trying to tell you something.
I think I feel a headache coming out..........
Thanks Don. I know, there is a lot of research. And yet in spite of this many trainers and several associations here in the UK keep saying it is contraindicated.
I am curious as to why?
It just seems crazy that these myths persist when there are so many "official" studies that show how effective hypnosis is with morning sickness.
And of course the treatment of Kate Middleton on her last pregnancy
The following is a quote from one of the studies
It is also stressed that medical hypnosis can be used to treat common morning sickness that is experienced by up to 80 percent of pregnant women. Its use could allow a more comfortable pregnancy and healthier fetal development, and could prevent cases that might otherwise proceed to full-blown hyperemesis gravidarum.
So it appears that not only is it not contraindicated but can actually lead to healthier fetal development.
I have a just been reading a post from a fellow hypnotist on a FB forum. They were commenting on the recent news that Kate Middleton (Duchess of Cambridge) is pregnant again and suffering from morning sickness again. One poster asked if hypnosis could be used to help her and then another poster jumped and said, "that hypnosis is contra indicated in the first trimester"
I pointed out that this was nonsense and was just another example of the myth of hypnosis but the poster said that their association and insurers stated that it was a contra indication for hypnosis.
What on earth are they basing this on?
A quick search on Google shows numerous medical studies showing the effectiveness of hypnosis with hyperemesis graviderum the most severe form of morning sickness so why are these associations ignoring this research which not only shows how effective hypnosis is, but also that it is clearly safe?
Personally I have worked with 100s of young women who after discovering they are pregnant want to stop smoking and also many with morning sickness.
So my question is, why do these myths persist?
Has there ever been a single case where hypnosis has caused harm during the first trimester?
What suddenly happens after the first trimester that suddenly makes hypnosis safe again?
Love to hear what you guys with experience in this area think?
